It doesn't refer to the practical execution of tasks the "doing", but to the invisible responsibility of remembering, anticipating, and coordinating every detail to ensure the family runs smoothly.

In the life of a single parent/glossary/single-parent, the mental load is often doubled due to the lack of task division with a cohabiting partner.
