Meaning of Emancipation in the GenGle Glossary
Emancipation is the process of gaining independence and decision-making autonomy, essential for single parents rebuilding their lives.
Definition of Emancipation
The term emancipation refers to the process by which an individual frees themselves from constraints, restrictions, or forms of dependence economic, legal, or psychological to gain full autonomy and the ability to make choices. In common language, it represents the transition from a state of subjection to one of independence.
Context in Single Parenting
For a single parent, emancipation takes on a profound significance that goes beyond the legal aspect. It manifests as the ability to rebuild one's identity outside the previous family unit, emotionally and financially detaching from the ex-partner. It often coincides with rediscovering one's personal resources and fully exercising parental responsibility/glossary/parental-responsibility independently, ensuring stability for oneself and one's children through conscious choices free from external conditioning.
Legal and Social Aspects
There is also a legal emancipation related to minors art. 390 of the Italian Civil Code, which allows adolescents over 16 to acquire limited legal capacity following marriage. However, for the GenGle community, emancipation is viewed as a journey of personal growth: the moment when one stops feeling 'part of a failed couple' and begins to lead their family with pride and independence.
